Aura’s pottery instructor for the day showed them how to create a divot at the bottom of their cup, but as much as Aura tried, they couldn’t seem to get the hang of it. The top of the cup sunk—a receding tide. They lifted their foot off the pedal and the wheel sputtered to a stop.
“It’s really no big deal,” the instructor said, grabbing the wilted clay off the top, “The cup will just be a little smaller.”
