Afternoon light filtered through the oval windows of the plane as it prepared to land in New York, eventually taxiing in the light drizzle.
Jackson had struck up a conversation with his seat-mate, Richard, about newly-opened restaurants. “There’ve been a ton,” Richard uncapped a pen and started scribbling some options down on a napkin.
“Thanks, man, I appreciate all your help,” Jackson said, tucking the napkin in his pocket before exiting the plane. While they waited for their bags, Diana and Jackson researched the places, settling on a new Jamaican restaurant not too far from the airport. When their cab driver dropped them off, they were hit with the smell of plantains and cabbage before they got into the building.
“When did y’all open?” Diana asked the young woman behind the counter.
“Just a couple weeks ago,” she said as she stirred the red beans. “Anything speaking to you?”
“All of it,” Diana smiled. “We’ll try a bit of everything.”
